HydraFacial or a Cleansing Facial? Choosing the Right Facial for Sun-Stressed Skin

After four days of sun, salt and sunscreen, holiday skin is congested and dull, and there are three ways to fix it: a 45-minute Facial Cleansing, a 75-minute Deep Facial Cleansing with extractions, or the HydraFacial Deluxe. Here is what each actually does and which one your skin needs this week.

HydraFacial or a Cleansing Facial? Choosing the Right Facial for Sun-Stressed Skin

The one-paragraph answer

Facial Cleansing, EUR 35 and 45 minutes, is the reset: cleanse, light exfoliation, a soothing mask, moisturiser and SPF. Book it when skin is tired and dull but not congested, or when it is sensitive. Deep Facial Cleansing, EUR 50 and 75 minutes, adds steam, careful extraction of blackheads and whiteheads, high-frequency and a face massage. Book it when pores are visibly clogged, usually from sunscreen and sweat. HydraFacial Deluxe, EUR 50 and 75 minutes, uses a device to exfoliate, extract painlessly and infuse a hydrating serum. Book it when you want the most visible glow with no redness and no downtime, especially before an evening out.

What sun, salt and sunscreen actually do

Sun thickens the outer layer of skin and dries it, which is why a tan can look dull up close. Salt water dries it further and leaves a film. Sunscreen, reapplied every two hours as it should be, sits in that film with sweat and sand, and by day three the pores are full of it. Air conditioning overnight removes what moisture is left.

So the problem is not one thing. It is dehydration, a build-up on the surface and congestion underneath, in varying amounts depending on your skin. Oily and combination skin tends toward congestion; dry and sensitive skin tends toward dehydration and redness. That is the whole basis for choosing between the three facials.

Facial Cleansing: the 45-minute reset

This is the lighter facial, and the one to book first if your skin reacts easily. After a consultation and makeup removal, your therapist cleanses, exfoliates gently, applies a mask matched to your skin and finishes with toner, moisturiser and SPF for daytime appointments.

It suits sensitive and dry skin, regular upkeep, and anyone who wants a quick glow between beach days without extractions. It is the facial inside the Manicure & Facial, Pedicure & Facial and Facial & Massage packages, where it adds EUR 10 to EUR 20 to the package rather than the full EUR 35.

Deep Facial Cleansing: for congested skin

This is the facial for skin that feels bumpy under the fingertips. Warm steam softens the pores, then your therapist extracts blackheads and whiteheads where needed, applies a high-frequency treatment where it suits the skin, follows with a soothing face massage and a hydrating mask, and finishes with toner, serum, moisturiser and SPF.

Extractions can leave slight redness for an hour or two, which is why we suggest booking it in the late afternoon or before a rest day rather than two hours before dinner photos. It is the best choice for oily and combination skin, clogged pores and the week before a special occasion.

HydraFacial Deluxe: the glow with no downtime

The HydraFacial uses a handpiece that resurfaces the skin, performs painless vortex extractions and infuses a hydration serum in the same pass. There is no manual squeezing, no redness to wait out and nothing to hide; you can walk from the chair to a dinner table.

It is suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin, and it is the facial to book when you want the most visible result for an evening, for photographs or at the end of a holiday to undo a fortnight of sun. It is the facial inside the Glow & Go, Beach Goddess, Bridal Radiance and Royal Retreat packages.

Timing, sun and how often

Do not book any facial in the morning before a full day of strong sun; freshly exfoliated skin burns faster. Late afternoon is ideal, or the morning of a rest day. Wear SPF the next day regardless, and skip home scrubs or acids for 48 hours after.

One facial a week is plenty. If you are here for two weeks and want two, start with the cleansing version early on and finish with the HydraFacial near the end, so you fly home with the glow. All three are done in our own rooms on the 2nd floor of Panorama Mall, Hurghada, daily 09:00 to 22:00, with free hotel pickup inside Hurghada and EUR 10 per person return from Makadi Bay, Sahl Hasheesh and El Gouna. Pay cash in EUR on arrival; cancellation is free up to 12 hours before.
