Gel, Classic or Nail Art: Choosing a Manicure That Survives Your Holiday
Sand, salt water, sunscreen and pool chemicals are hard on nails. Here is which manicure actually lasts the week, which one is a waste on day one, and what each costs.

The short answer
A gel manicure is the one that survives a beach holiday: cured under lamp, chip-resistant, and good for two to three weeks. It is 60 minutes and EUR 35.
A classic manicure is shaping, cuticle work and regular polish - 45 minutes and EUR 25. It is the better value and the better choice for nail health, but the polish will not survive a week of sand and sea untouched.
Nail art is 75 minutes and EUR 40, built on a gel base, and is worth booking when the nails are the point rather than an afterthought.

Why holiday nails chip and lift
Four things work against a manicure here, and they are not the ones people expect.
Water is the main one. Nails absorb water and expand, then dry and contract, and that repeated movement is what lifts polish and gel at the edges. Long pool sessions do more damage to a manicure than a single dive does.
Sand is a physical abrasive that files at the free edge and at the polish edge every time you walk on a beach or dig your hands into it.
Sunscreen and body oil are the quiet culprits: oil on the nail plate before a manicure prevents proper adhesion, and oil applied afterwards works its way under the edge.
And pool chemistry - chlorine and bromine - dries the nail plate and the cuticle, which makes both more brittle by the end of the week.
Which one to book, by situation
Book gel (EUR 35) if you will be in and out of water daily, if you want it to last past the flight home, or if your own nails chip quickly. Two to three weeks is realistic even with beach days.
Book classic (EUR 25) if your nails are thin or already damaged and you would rather give them a break, if you want a colour for one specific evening, or if you prefer to remove the polish yourself.
Book nail art (EUR 40) if there is an occasion, or if you want something you would not do at home. It builds on a gel base, so it lasts like gel.
Do not book gel on day one of a two-week trip expecting it to look new on day fourteen - it will need infill by then. And do not book any manicure in the hour before a beach afternoon.
How to make it last the week
Rinse your hands with fresh water after swimming, in the same way you would rinse your hair. Salt and chlorine left to dry on the nail edge is where lifting begins.
Apply cuticle oil at night, not sunscreen. Sunscreen on the nail plate is the single most common reason a good gel manicure lifts early.
Do not use your nails as tools - opening cans, prising lids, scraping. This is the actual cause of most "it just broke" breakages, on holiday and at home.
If a gel nail lifts at the edge, do not pick at it or pull it. Picking takes the top layer of your own nail with it. Come back and we will fix it properly.
And if the polish outlasts the trip - which it usually does - have gel removed rather than peeling it off. Peeled gel is the reason people believe gel "ruins" nails; correctly removed gel does not.
Hygiene, and what to ask anywhere you book
Nails are the treatment where hygiene matters most, because the tools touch skin and the cuticle.
Ask two questions anywhere in the world: are the metal tools sterilised between clients, and are files and buffers single-use. The answers should be yes and yes. In our studio metal instruments are sterilised between every client and files and buffers are single-use.
Also worth knowing: a cuticle should be pushed back and tidied, not cut away. Aggressive cuticle cutting is what causes the ragged, inflamed edges people come back with a week later.
If a place cannot answer either question clearly, do not book there. This is true of nail salons everywhere, not only here.

Manicures are done by our own technicians on the 2nd floor of Panorama Mall in Hurghada, open daily 09:00 to 22:00. Classic manicure EUR 25 (45 minutes), gel manicure EUR 35 (60 minutes), nail art EUR 40 (75 minutes). A classic pedicure is EUR 25.
Hotel pickup and drop-off is free anywhere inside Hurghada. Makadi Bay, Sahl Hasheesh and El Gouna are EUR 10 per person return; Soma Bay and Safaga on request.
Bring a photo if you have a specific colour or design in mind - it saves ten minutes of description and gets you a closer result. Prices are fixed in euros and paid in cash on arrival.
