A hot stone massage works on a simple principle: warm tissue lets go, cold tissue resists. Smooth basalt stones - volcanic rock, chosen because it holds an even heat far longer than ordinary stone - are warmed to a comfortable working temperature and used two ways. They are glided along the muscles as an extension of the therapist's hands, and they are rested on the points that are holding the most while the massage continues around them.
The practical result is that a tight shoulder or a locked upper back releases without anyone having to dig. If deep-tissue massage usually feels like something to be endured rather than enjoyed, this is the version that gives you the same relief and none of the wincing. A full hour over the whole body
The session covers back, shoulders, arms and legs, finishing with a gentle neck massage and a slow closing sequence.
