A hot stone massage works on a simple principle: warm tissue lets go, cold tissue resists. Smooth basalt stones - volcanic rock, chosen because it holds an even heat far longer than ordinary stone - are warmed to a comfortable working temperature and used two ways. They are glided along the muscles as an extension of the therapist's hands, and they are rested on the points that are holding the most while the massage continues around them.
The practical result is that a tight shoulder or a locked upper back releases without anyone having to dig. If deep-tissue massage usually feels like something to be endured rather than enjoyed, this is the version that gives you the same relief and none of the wincing. It is also, for the same reason, one of the better first massages for anyone who has never had one.
The session covers back, shoulders, arms and legs, finishing with a gentle neck massage and a slow closing sequence. Your therapist starts where the stones make the biggest difference - the back and shoulders - then works down through the legs and out along the arms, adjusting temperature and pressure as they go. You are draped with towels throughout and only the area being worked on is uncovered.
Sixty minutes is the right length for the technique. The stones need time to transfer heat into the tissue before the massage strokes do their work, and rushing that is what makes a short stone massage feel like a gimmick rather than a treatment.
Almost every reason guests give for booking a massage in Hurghada responds well to heat. A long or overnight flight leaves the lower back and hips stiff. A diving day loads the shoulders and neck, especially carrying a tank to the boat. Hours on a sun lounger do something subtler and just as uncomfortable to the upper back. And a surprising number of guests arrive with the shoulders they built up at a desk over the previous eleven months.
Air conditioning is the other one nobody expects. Days spent moving between hot outdoors and heavily cooled rooms leave muscles guarded and tight, and warm stones are the most direct answer to that there is.
Sixty minutes, EUR 25 per person, on the hour from 10:00 to 18:00, in a candle-lit treatment room with a private changing area. Hotel pickup inside Hurghada is free; El Gouna, Sahl Hasheesh, Makadi Bay, Soma Bay and Safaga are covered for a small transfer fee. Reserve online in two minutes, pay cash in EUR on arrival, cancel free up to twelve hours before.
Please tell us when you book if you are pregnant, have high or low blood pressure, diabetes, varicose veins, a skin condition or a recent injury - heat is not right in all of those cases and we will recommend a standard relaxation massage instead. Every stone is cleaned and disinfected between guests, and linens are fresh for every appointment. If you want the scalp treated as well, the Luxury Head Spa & Hot Stone Ritual combines both in 75 minutes for EUR 40.
How much is a hot stone massage in Hurghada?
EUR 25 per person for 60 minutes, fixed in EUR and paid in cash on arrival. Combined with the head spa as the 75-minute Luxury Head Spa & Hot Stone Ritual it is EUR 40.
How hot are the stones?
Warm rather than hot. They are heated to a comfortable working temperature and tested on your skin before the massage begins, and you can ask for them warmer or cooler at any point.
Is a hot stone massage better than a normal massage?
It is better for deep relief without strong pressure, and for anyone who finds deep-tissue work uncomfortable. If you specifically want firm pressure and knot work, the 60 or 90-minute full body massage is the better choice.
Who should not book a hot stone massage?
Guests who are pregnant or who have high or low blood pressure, diabetes, varicose veins, a skin condition or a recent injury. Tell us when booking and we will recommend a suitable alternative.
How do I pay?
You pay cash in EUR when you arrive for your appointment. Reserving online is free and confirmed instantly, with nothing to pay up front.
